Finally, another update! With a video :D

Alright, so here is another update, finally. This is a bit overdue, I admit, but there is more in this update than I had been planning. Originally I wanted to make a video, then I decided against it because of some of the bugs (which you will see in the video). Then I wanted to just do screenshots, well, when I sat down last night to start making the screenshots, I made a whole video. Annnndddd, that’s about that, you guys get a video.

Without further ado, here’s the video (I guess wordpress doesn’t allow me to embed the video)

Any questions you might have should be answered by the in-video captions/comments.

That aside, let’s see, what’s new. xD It’s been too long….
We have more translators. I’d also like to point out that, for the time being, unless I’ve already talked to you, I don’t want anymore translators. We need to get a little more organized with the current translators before we start accepting anymore new ones. Also, the game is now being translated into Russian too, I have a screenshot somewhere of the Russian Cyrillic working in-game, but I think that most of you will take my word for it.

Also, if you haven’t noticed yet, and haven’t been reading the comments on the articles, there is now an overview of the online translator that is being used for the translation. You can go take a look at that if you are interested. It’s under the “Pages” category (or I’ll just link it).

And, last but not least, the English script’s translation completion percent, according to the web translator, is now over 10%. So, there is a little insight on how complete the translation of the game’s script is.

Well, I was gonna have this entry be much longer, but when you use a nice video instead of screenshots things get much shorter than planned.

Hope you enjoy the video šŸ˜€

By the way, as a side note down here below the important stuff, I’ve fallin’ in love with Vimeo for uploading videos. I’m picky about my video quality so I can’t stand using YouTube if I care about the quality of the video. Vimeo is a very nice site, not as good as Stage6 was, but it’s very nice. I highly recommend it.

  1. Wow šŸ™‚ Great progress so far!! I really can’t wait for the final release!!

Question:: So after this patch is made, how do you attach it to your psp game that you have?? Just wondering because I’ve never had to use a translation patch before.

  2. The patcher is an exe file. You select what language you want, if you want anything ripped (and if you do, what you want ripped), and if you want it to build a cso for you. From there it will ask you for the original ISO image (you can rip a PSP game on your PSP with the M33 firmware, just set the USB up to access the UMD and then drag and drop to your computer). Then the patcher will do the rest of the work for you. You just have to put the final image on your PSP’s memory stick and run it from the game menu.

But you do NEED to have a PSP with a custom firmware installed to be able to use this when it gets released.

  3. Awesome progress and thanks for the update. I was just wondering, maybe you could set up a counter that showed the percent of translated text. That way we could see how the project is coming without having to wait wait for updates. šŸ™‚ Anyways, just a suggestion.

  4. SUPPORT! x~x

  5. a custom firmware? hmm….I’m not sure if i understand half of that stuff. I just recently bought a new PSP >_<

  6. i luv u zerradeth and i always will

  7. @Stephanie

What model PSP do you have?
It might not be possible to hack it (yet), but I can try and help you.

Is it a Slim, or the new Slim & Lite? (or whatever they called the new 3000 :S)

And to make this easier, do you have an AIM account or anything like that?
(Email it to me if you don’t want to post it)

There is a site like that, but it isn’t for the English one, I’ll see what I can do for you guys šŸ™‚

  8. Looks great… Now if only I could recharge my battery… T_T

  9. Does anyone know were I can download this patch, or if it is even out? Is the Alpha 2 patch the latest one released?

  10. The alpha 2 (which is a pretty “unofficial” release) is the latest, the alphas were only made to try and attract translators.

There probably wont be anymore incomplete patches released before the project is complete.

The finished patch isn’t out yet, the video was made off an incomplete patch meant for project members.

Happy New Year by the way, welcome to 2009 guys & gals šŸ˜€

  11. Wait, so far how much of the actual project is complete? One of the update’s says 10% and that’s quite a achievement for this kind of game (congratulations btw :D) but no beta’s at least? Is there a way I can contribute to this project?

  12. Things are going fast now, awesome šŸ˜€

  13. I need the ISO file? The alpha0.2 didn’t word with the CSO. =/

  14. x| Sorry I haven’t been replying to your comments. I’ve been really busy lately.

The original betas were released only to attempt to attract translators. Now that we have some we don’t really need to release them. WE don’t really wanna release anything that isn’t complete.

You can use UMDGen to decompress the image.

  15. šŸ˜› contest over, nevermind xD

  16. Lol giant explosions x)

  17. how did you extract the script, cause im taking CLANNAD (psp ver) and changing the script to english. help plz.

  18. I’ve looked through Clannad for the PSP and it definitively isn’t as simple as this game was (not to say that it’s complex either though, I’m just going by what I see with a hex editor and UMDGen). SHNY is, very basically put, pure text. There is no compression or packing.

Going by the looks of things, the format for the Clannad PSP game is similar to the PC version (I’m not sure, I don’t have the PC version), they both most likely store the information you are looking for in PAK files.

I would highly recommend getting in contact with the people working on the PC translation and see what they think, or if they can help you.

It might be possible to “port” the PC translation to the PSP, but I wouldn’t count on it being that simple. But, seeing as how both versions seem to use the same kind of file format for the texts (possibly) I think it might be possible.

I would also recommend using the patch that makes the game one disc, I’m not sure if this just takes all the PAK files and puts them in one directory and removes the need for duplicate files, but I would imagine it easier to work with one image vs. two.

But, again, your best bet would be to get in contact with the people working on the PC translation and get their idea on things, they know much more about the game’s file format than I do. Just make sure you give them info about the game’s layout and structure so they get an idea themselves if it would be feasible. But I can tell you right now that the AT3s are music files, vag are PSP specific sound files, gim are PSP specific image files, and pmf are PSP specific video files. All of these can be converted and edited, but when it comes down to it, I think the only thing that would need editing would be the PAK files. Maybe gim files, which can be converted if they need to be.

    Hope this helps,
    Good luck šŸ˜›

  19. wow, thanks for the quick and very detailed response. I guess I’ll get around to all this stuff tomorrow when I’m at school.

  20. I am kinda new here. Thank you for your translation work! I can’t imagine why did they not released something as popular as “Suzumiya-Haruhi-Game” worldwide.
Hey. I know Russian. Maybe i could help you with russian translation. Like, edit russian text or something?
P.S. Excuse me if i did some spelling mistakes ^_^

  21. Even though the Haruhi Suzumiya series is popular, games such as visual novels don’t sell very well in the United States (or any regions outside Japan as far as I know). This is why you usually only see visual novels that are in Japanese. The only visual novel that I can think of that has been released in English are the Metal Gear series ones, but those might not even be considered visual novels by most.
Visual Novels just don’t sell well in markets outside of Japan so companies usually don’t want to risk trying to sell them outside Japan.

That aside, I think I might be making another video sometime soonish~~ šŸ˜›
I wanna do one of the minigames for you guys. It doesn’t really show much actual translation work (there is stuff translated in them though). But the minigames are something different that just your normal text. šŸ˜›
A change of pace is always good sometimes. šŸ™‚

  22. Dang šŸ˜›

There are more images that need to be translated in the mini-games than I thought. I dunno if I will do a video of the mini-games if there are so many images untranslated. Most of them aren’t too big of a deal to edit thought. On a side note, I did (finally) finish the main menus. That had been put off longer than it should have been. xD

  23. That video was awesome, I just recieved the actual game in the mail yesterday from And I was wondering since I don’t have custom firmware and maybe others might be in that same situation as well, will you decide to make a game guide as well? Or maybe videos like a video walkthrough? I use this it’s not that great since I still have to skip all the dialogue I can only understand a few Japanese words lol. Well thank you!!!^_^
